Albuquerque Convention Center (2001 - 2018)
Every summer, the Mayor's Art Institute hired up to 24 talented youth to work with two or more lead artists. Each eight-week program added approximately 200 square feet of handmade tile to the building. Several spring programs hired adult and youth apprentices. Apprentices were involved in every aspect of the mural, including designing, making tiles, and installing them on the wall. This project was funded by the New Mexico Youth Conservation Corps, the City of Albuquerque Public Art Program, Heart Gallery of New Mexico Foundation, the Mayor’s Office, Albuquerque City Council, Family and Community Services Department, Cultural Services Department, Bank of the West, French Mortuary, American Home Furnishings, Don Chalmers Ford, LEF Foundation, the McCune Foundation, and the Urban Enhancement Trust Fund.
